Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.
This is an NRA blended learning class that uses both online and in class/range.

Cost is $60 at the time of registration.
Phase I is a comprehensive learning experience that will give you a broad overview of the different types of handguns, their safe operation, maintenance and storage. You will receive materials in the mail as well as access to the online course.
Phase 2 - register for class at www.matvalleyrange.org
Additional cost at the range is $60 (Please pay online)
The Phase II section will be conducted by NRA certified instructors here at MVS and take approximately 6 hours with the additional cost of $60. Ammunition IS NOT SUPPLIED for this class. During Phase II, you will be able to put what you have learned on-line to practical use as you use your firearm or ours to learn to recognize action types, and how to load and unload and shoot various types of handguns safely and comfortably. Revolvers and Autoloaders are covered in both portions of the course. Registration for this portion will be online at www.matvalleyrange.org under "Classes-Registration."
You MUST complete phase 1 online before attending the MVS portion. Please provide us with your USER LOGIN and the PIN number when you come to the class.
You will need a safe handgun in a caliber from .22 long rifle to .45ACP/.45 Colt with at least 100 rounds of .22 LR ammunition and another 100 rounds of ammunition for the firearm you want to use to shoot the qualifications with. You may use a .22 LR to do so.
Bring .38 Special target ammo for .357 Magnum or .44 Special for .44 Magnum handguns. We have .22LR pistols you may use. Hunting handguns larger than .44 Magnum are not allowed in the basic course. We have most common centerfire cartridges in stock for purchase as well as a limited supply of .22 LR. You must bring the firearm into the range in a case, bag or holster. If you have eye and ear protection, please bring them. Otherwise we have loaners you can use for the course.
